Building Owners/Occupiers Responsibilities
The Workplace Health and Safety Regulations requires that an appropriate number of portable fire extinguishers be provided and maintained in the workplace. Penalties apply for non-compliance with the regulations.Once installed portable fire protection equipment must be regularly serviced. Laws require installed fire protection equipment be serviced and maintained so that the equipment performs to the standard to which it was originally designed. Based on Australian Standards, most portable fire protection equipment is required to be serviced every six months.

If exit lights or emergency evacuation luminaries fail to operate when called upon, occupants can become disoriented, placing lives at risk.
